The artist created abstract pencil drawings as she sought deeper understanding in global events such as social unrest and the coronavirus pandemic, while also exploring larger themes such as fear, truth, self-acceptance, sorrow, and love.
The literary portion is the writer's exploration of those same themes and includes her interpretations of the art.
The typographic expression on the pages is the designer's individual, yet holistic interpretation of the book and its themes.
KATHY BUSTARD (Artist)
As a graphic designer Kathy’s focus is visual brand identity design. However, her first love is art, and she believes that art has the power to transform the world. Through storytelling she aims to build connection among humanity, bringing people closer to each other. This book offers that inspiration.
MARIE O’BRIEN (Writer)
Marie O’Brien is a former journalist and marketing director, and has been enjoying creative writing full time inrecent years. Her personal essays about life’s unexpected lessons have aired on the radio and been published in print and online. She also served as a contributing writer for two historical books and is currently working on her third historical project. She cites this artistic collaboration as yet another one of life’s unique moments and she is thrilled to be part of the adventure.
CHAD REICHERT (Designer)
Chad Reichert is the proprietor of spirit3design, a multi- disciplinary design practice based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The focus of s3d is creative problem solving, dynamic story telling and design thinking. He is also Professor of Communication Design & Strategy at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI. There he teaches typography, branding and motion design.
