For me “Come Closer” has become a meditative tool.  I allow myself to shut out the world as I get lost in the imagery and words to focus on my connection to what I am experiencing. The figures are me. The words are messages for me to relate to my own life experiences. It’s all so personal. How can it not be? The vulnerability is a human condition. We live it everyday in different situations. Kathy’s delicately drawn tubes illustrate the need for connection to others which is so vital as screens are now a barrier to experiencing soul to soul interactions and relationships. Marie and Chad’s words are displayed in such a way that I have time to absorb meaning and sometimes the playful positions give me insight into meaning. It’s all so calm, peaceful and gives me the space and time to feel. Whatever that might be, as it can change from day to day! How cool is that?

“Come Closer” is the perfect title for this book. The first time I looked into it, the book captured my attention and then my imagination, first with the exquisite drawings and then the poems, and finally with the interplay between the images and the verse, and even the typography. Looking through its pages, I feel many emotions: love, apprehension, wonder, and contentment. Overall, the book strikes me as soulful and life-affirming and challenging, with different interpretations emerging each time I delve into its pages. This is a rich treasure for the mind and the eye!

I love everything about “Come Closer” – the wonderful drawings, thoughtful essays and poems, the inventive graphic design of both the poetry and the book itself. There is a lovely flow of symbolism and metaphors throughout. The authors have given us a beautiful collaborative work of art.  Thank you!
